Every birth is unique, whether through a vaginal delivery or a C-section. While both are extraordinary ways of bringing your baby into the world, recovery looks different for each.
Recovery After a Vaginal Birth
Physical Healing: You may experience perineal soreness, stitches, or pelvic floor weakness. Warm sitz baths, pelvic floor exercises, and rest are key.
Bleeding (Lochia): Can last 4–6 weeks. Using pads instead of tampons helps healing.
Energy Levels: Rest whenever you can. Your body has been through intense physical effort and needs recovery time.
Recovery After a C-Section
Surgical Healing: The incision takes 6–8 weeks to heal. Avoid heavy lifting and follow wound-care instructions.
Pain Management: Gentle walking aids circulation and reduces clot risks, but don’t push yourself.
Core Recovery: Your abdominal muscles need time to regain strength. Avoid crunches or straining movements until cleared by your doctor.
Common to Both
Nutrition & Hydration: Fuel your recovery with nourishing meals.
Emotional Health: Whether planned or unexpected, birth can bring mixed feelings—give yourself permission to process them.
Asking for Help: Recovery is not a solo journey. Lean on your support network for cooking, chores, and baby care.
A Loving Reminder
